Hoe zou een moderne fietsenstalling eruit moeten zien?

Laat je fantasie los op dit thema.
Je kunt denken aan ondergronds, bovengronds, groot, klein, eenvoudig, luxe, doorzichtig, veelkleurig, modern, antiek, bewaakt, onbewaakt, met museum, met bikewash, voor alle soorten fietsen, gereserveerd voor alleen hippe damesfietsen, voor weggooifietsen , enz.
Moet in een moderne fietsenstalling ook plaats zijn voor een snorfiets, brommer, motor, scooter of scootmobiel?

Ontwerpwedstrijd BikeParkingsDesign
We nodigen je hierbij uit om deel te nemen. Deelname is geheel gratis. Niet gebonden aan leeftijd en grenzen van je fantasie.
Deelname mogelijk vanaf 15 september 2008 t/m 31 december 2008 (sluitingsdatum).

Zend jouw idee in als tekening, fotomontage, video (max. 3 minuten; YouTube stijl), voorzien van uw argumentatie (max. 1 pagina A4).

De winnaar categorie STUDENT DESIGNSCHOOL (1e prijs) ontvangt een prijs van 750 Euro.
De winnaar categorie NONAME krijgt gratis een bankrekening bij BiznerBank ..... en een prijs van 500 Euro, die we op deze rekening zullen storten..
Er zijn verder geen prijzen te winnen, alleen zgn. "eervolle vermeldingen" (wij verwachten dat verschillende bedrijven hiervoor graag een prijsje beschikbaar zullen stellen; tzt zullen we je hierover op deze pagina informeren).

Bike Park Melbourne (Australie)
Being located around 300 metres from the main city train station of Flinders Street riders can enjoy the benefits of secure parking and showering for about a $10 casual fee close by to their office. Or they can become a Bike Park member and get lower long term rates.

James Chong, co-proprietor of Bike Park, who took up cycling in his late 40's on the advise of his doctor, has some competition in Melbourne for his services, in the Bike Boutique chain, who offer similar options at the other end of the city. Bike Boutiques can be found in 10 countries, from Germany to the Philippines and most provide to their sticky clientele what they call BikeLodging.

But The Age newspaper quotes figures from the Melbourne City Council suggesting that about 7,000 commuting cyclists arrive in the Central Business District (CBD) during the morning peak at last count. So we trust both businesses can manage to sustain a roaring trade as riders discover their services.

James of Bike Park is of the belief that just as workplaces often provide car parking, they should consider the option of sponsoring, or at least subsidising, the cost of bicycle parking for employees, as cyclists make for productive staff. And research seems to bear this out, as we mentioned the other day with our little post .

London's bike-sharing program is scheduled to open to the public on July 30, 2010. As far as bike-sharing goes, it will be a pretty big launch (bigger than Washington DC's bike-share, for example): There will be about 400 bicycle docking stations, 10,200 docking spaces and 6,000 bicycles available at launch in central London

Boris Johnson, London's mayor and a cyclist commuter, has been a big supporter of the program. He said: “I have long held the view that a cyclised city is a civilised city, but if we are to get more Londoners on to two wheels rather than four we need to provide the facilities to help them do so. I hope a central-London cycle-hire scheme will inspire Londoners as a whole, and not just the adventurous few, to get on their bikes and give cycling a go. I believe that the work we are carrying out can make the capital a city of cyclists, where to use two wheels is common, not curious.”

The bicycles and the docking stations that will be used in London are built in Canada and are based on Bixi, Montreal's bicycle rental system (picture).

I hope that all will go well with the launch, and that londoners will embrace the project. More cities around the world need to stop relying so much on cars, especially for weekday commuting (everybody just gets stuck in traffic anyway - a big waste of time and resources.

Futuristische fietsenstalling in Tokio (video)

Sanyo heeft twee high-tech milieuvriendelijke fietsenstallingen geopend in Tokio. De stallingen zijn speciaal bedoeld voor elektrische fietsen en maken gebruik van zonne-energie.

De fietsen wordt automatisch opgeladen via de zonnepanelen die op het dak van de stalling zijn gemonteerd. De opgevangen zonne-energie wordt opgeslagen in batterijen.

De panelen wekken 7,5 kilowatt energie op, waarmee veertig fietsen voorzien worden van stroom. Ook de led-lampen van de stalling werken op dezelfde energien. De elektrische fietsen zijn te huur voor 3 dollar per dag.

Bike Parking Concept Californië (USA)

Fietsers in een 12-tal locaties van de stad (vnl. bij metrostations) kunnen binnenkort met een gerust hart hun fiets veilig plaatsen in zgn. BikeLid kluisjes.

Werkwijze: a)openen, b) plaats voor 2 en c)sluiten.
Ze zien er een beetje vreemd uit, gemaakt uit polyethyleen en versterkt met metalen profielen. Gemonteerd op een betonnen voetplaat.
Gemaakt uit industrieel plastic afval en gerecycled staal.
